La Cava and Jacobson, PA was honored to be the Presenting Sponsor of Georgette’s Boutique Holiday Fashion Show Benefiting St Joseph’s Women’s Hospital. The event raised $160,000 for the Women’s Hospital. We were especially proud to see Committee Member, April La Cava grace the runway as one of the celebrity models. Motions For Hospital Unanimously Granted

Tom Saieva filed a Motion to Dismiss and Motion for Determination on behalf of a hospital and its nurses due to plaintiffs’ failure to comply with presuit requirements under Florida law. Although the lower court denied the motions, the Second District Court unanimously granted certiorari. The District Court quashed the lower court’s refusal to make a “determination” and has required the lower court to provide an evidentiary hearing.

Paralegal Certification Conference

Juanita Serrano, RP organized and managed the annual Paralegal Certification Conference.  She also spoke on preparing for the exams during NFPA’s Annual Joint Conference in New York.

Joint conference includes 3 conferences for our members and focuses on leadership training, certification and paralegal regulation.

La Cava & Jacobson Weedon Island Preserve Donation

April La Cava, Lou La Cava, La Cava and Jacobson and The Friends of Weedon Island were proud to make possible a beautiful bronze gopher turtle sculpture which will be permanently displayed at the Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center in St. Petersburg.  The preserve is the natural habitat for the gopher turtle. We encourage you to visit the preserve and exhibit center and to become a member of the Friends of Weedon Island. Weedon Island Preserve – “A Place to Remember

Weedon Island Preserve is an expansive 3,190-acre natural area located on Tampa Bay. This coastal system, comprised of aquatic and upland ecosystems, is home to numerous species of native plants and animals, an educational facility and a rich cultural history. Indigenous peoples occupied this site for thousands of years. Today, the preserve protects this wide diversity of natural and cultural resources for current and future generations. Weedon Island Preserve is also a well-known birding and fishing site.

 

La Cava & Jacobson Obtains A Final Summary Judgment In A Negligence Case Leading To A Death

Tom Saieva and Lesley Stine obtained a Final Summary Judgment in a case alleging negligence leading to a death of a 6 year old during surgery. The Second District Court of Appeal issued an order unanimously affirming the trial court’s final judgment in favor of a surgery facility based on the plaintiff’s failure to timely file a complaint. The court also granted a motion for attorney’s fees and costs based on a proposal for settlement filed by the defense.
